Great to see your blog here, Sarah! I would like to clarify some things about yoga. There are manyRead More styles of yoga that vary somewhat but often, especially in styles like Vinyasa Flow, the breathing is deep, diaphragmatic and with and added awareness of bandhas, or energy locks, to more deeply focus on the core of the body-- physically, energetically, and spiritually. In addition, yoga is really not about simply placing the body in a particular position, and then deepening, although there are some schools of yoga that put a great deal of emphasis on alignment. Yoga practice begins by taking a few moments of meditative stillness, and setting an intention for the practice. This intention of what the practitioner wants to bring into his or her life is what guides the practice. Each and every movement, linked with this deep breath, connects to this intention, emanating from that physical, energetic, spiritual core. In other words, yoga is completely about intention and connecting every movement, on and off the mat, to the very core of one's being. Namaste.
