Police Department Holding Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
Naperville Police Department collecting expired and unwanted prescription drugs this weekend.
This weekend the Naperville Police Department is giving residents the opportunity to turn-in their unwanted prescription drugs as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Police will be collecting expired, unused and potetially dangerous prescription drugs during the free and anonymous program on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A collection site can be found at the Naperville Police Department located at 1350 Aurora Ave.
More than 377,000 pounds of unwanted medications from around the U.S. were turned in last year during the DEA's third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Almost 1 million pounds have been collected over the course of the last three years as a result of the program.
“The amount of prescription drugs turned in by the American public during the past three Take-Back Day events speaks volumes about the need to develop a convenient way to rid homes of unwanted or expired prescription drugs,” said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart in a press release. “DEA remains hard at work to establish just such a drug disposal process, and will continue to offer take-back opportunities until the proper regulations are in place.”

Parents need to stop and make sure they dispose of old medicines and take advantage of this day. Very often parents don't know what is popular among kids. Many wouldn't believe that kids abuse pills. Sometimes parents are unknowingly their own child's drug dealer with these unattended pills. Many think their kids won't turn to heroin because their kid would never do drugs with a needle (you don't have to.) Teen addicts in treatment tell myteensavers that they often did not have the anti-drug message reinforced in the home. They also say home drug testing would have caught experimentation before it became addiction. Parents need to be in the know just as much as our children.
