NCC Update: Football Team Rolls to 6-0 Start
North Central College's 6th-ranked Cardinals pummel Millikin to stay perfect; men's cross country picks up invite win.
North Central College's football team continued its unbeaten start to the season Saturday, building a 38-point lead en route to a 38-7 CCIW win over Millikin University.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was former Naperville North standout Jordan Tassio, who had runs of 2 and 3 yards to account for the Cardinals' first two touchdowns. He added a 21-yard TD run in the second quarter as the Cardinals led 35-0 at the half.
Quarterback Brad Crackel and tight end Kyle Fiedorowicz combined on the third-longest passing play in school history in the second quarter — a 78-yard scoring strike.
Naperville Central graduate Nick Kukuc rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. Neuqua Valley graduate Joe Antonacci was the team's leading receiver with four catches for 45 yards.
North Central (6-0 overall, 3-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) celebrates homecoming Saturday at 2 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium as Illinois Wesleyan (5-1, 2-1) comes calling. The Cardinals are ranked No. 6 in both national polls, while the Titans are No. 25 in the Division III coach's poll. The teams tied for the CCIW crown a year ago.

Cross Country Team Still No. 1 in Midwest
North Central's men's cross country team maintained its No. 1 ranking in the Midwest Region by winning Saturday's 37-team UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational in Winneconne, Wis.
Michael Spain won the individual title in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 24:23 — 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up. He is undefeated on the season and earned CCIW Runner of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.
North Central has a week off before the CCIW championships. The Cardinals have won 36 straight conference titles and 43 overall.
Laesch 4th at Invitational
North Central's Amanda Laesch finished fourth at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational and earned her fifth CCIW Runner of the Week award on the season.
The Cardinals' women's team finished 10th out of 36 teams at the meet. North Central is off this week before looking to defend its CCIW crown in two weeks.
Soccer Team Scores Upset Win
The Cardinals' men's soccer team upset regionally ranked Concordia 2-1 on Monday.
Steven Mackey scored the game-winner in the 65th minute off a feed from Downers Grove South graduate Charlie Stanke. Stanke scored the Cardinals' first goal in the game.
The Cardinals return to action Sunday at 1 p.m., at home against Carthage.
