It's unknown how the bill will fare in the Illinois House.

The Illinois Senate on Tuesday approved legislation that could allow undocumented illegal immigrants to have driver's licenses.

State Senators voter overwhelmingly in favor of Senate Bill 957, which would allow immigrants to receive a temporary visitor driver's license (TVDL) upon successful completion of driver's training. The TVDL would then allow undocumented immigrants to obtain auto insurance, but do not provide a means of lawful identification for any other purpose, according to a statement issued by State Sen. Pat McGuire (D-Joliet) on Tuesday.
Forty-one Senators voted in favor of the bill, while 14 voted no and one abstained.
“The more tested and insured drivers there are, the safer our roads will be," McGuire said. "While citizenship is a federal matter, ensuring the safety of our roadways is a state matter. There were a number of safeguards built into the bill as a result of bipartisan compromise.”
Voting yes alongside McGuire were Sens. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and Linda Holmes (D-Aurora).
The fate of the bill in Illinois House is still unclear, according to the Chicago Tribune.
What do you think? Should undocumented illegal immigrants be able to legally hold driver's licenses?

This is the biggest crock ever, they should set a sting operation and round all the illegals up when they come to get there "licenses"... Load them in busses and head south west!

Just another ploy to make the state a sanctuary for illegals and fix elections as has been the case last Nov. We not going bankrupt fast enough let’s bring in more illegals to bleed the welfare rolls.
Only politicians who are crooks themselves believe law breakers would abide by the laws with respect to driving licenses and insurance. Same logic as banning guns only the good citizen gets killed by the gang bangers and thieves because he has been disarmed!

3 comments I agree with. I'd thought of the same idea as "Smoking"...nab 'em all when they apply for the licenses. And if the illegals don't follow our regs fo entering the country legally, what's to make anyone think they'll bother to get a license, insurance, etc. And who'[d PAy for the "driver training"? I'm sure the citizens of IL would wind up footing the bill. Vote the bill down and vote the idiots in the IL congress who voted for this out of office.

Now that the State is already spending almost 3.5 billion a year on illegal's , how much more is gong to be spent and wasted on testing and giving illegal's a license. When is this crap going to end.

Unfortunately the majority of the state’s electorate (assuming the elections weren’t fixed and that’s a big assumption) voted to keep these crooks and bums in office. It seems you have to be a convicted or indicted crook to run for officer in this state.
One has to wonder whether the voters are brain dead or just stupid. How many times do people have to be burned before they take their hand out of the fire?

Well Gerard, here's a clue as to the "voters" that are out there.
Tonights news had a piece about people who demonstrated today that this drivers license deal is..."not enough". Apparently they want to give the illegals the same type of license that we citizens have. I guess the word "ILLEGAL" doesn't register with their addled brains. Talk about really really stupid people.
