Give Back: Pet Items Needed, Food Drive Helps Humans and Animal Shelters

If you are looking for a simple way to give back to local groups, here are a few ways to help.

Remember the days of a neighbor sharing a cup of sugar? We here at Patch know that those acts of kindness—both big and small—continue even today, particularly in the very giving community of Naperville.  This column, Neighbors in Need, will spotlight organizations and groups seeking donations or items in need. If you belong to a group or organization that has a specific request, e-mail Local Editor Mary Ann Lopez at maryl@patch.com, referencing “Neighbors in Need."

Pets in Need

Organization: Naperville Area Humane Society

Items in need: Rawhides for big dogs; scoopable (clumping) cat litter

Drop off: Items can be donated at the shelter, 1620 W. Diehl Road.

Pet store helps people, pets

Event: Between Feb. 1 and 14 the store is accepting food for people, which will be donated to Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry, and will match the weight of the donated food in pet food, which will be donated to an area pet rescue group.

How to help: Drop off food at either Two Bostons location, then visit the Facebook page and vote for the rescue group you want to receive the pet food donation.
