Former Naperville North Counselor Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse of Student

A former Naperville North High School coach and counselor pleaded guilty on Tuesday to having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student in 2010, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney.

John Carbonaro, 35, of the 3S600 block of Melcher Avenue in Warrenville, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony, in front of Judge Blanche Hill Fawell this morning before his trial was about to begin, according to a release. He faces a sentencing hearing on Feb. 19.
“As a trusted member of the high school’s staff, Mr. Carbonaro used his position to sexually abuse his young victim,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a release. “He cared nothing for his victim and betrayed the trust placed in him by the victim, the school and the victim’s parents."
Carbonaro allegedly began a sexual relationship with the female Naperville North student in the summer of 2010, sexually abusing the student in his home, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney.
In Feburary of 2011, Carbonaro turned himself in after police said a concerned parent called the school and told the principal about an inappropriate relationship he had with a teenage student, Patch reported in 2011.
At that time, Naperville School District 203 administrators immediately contacted authorities to begin an investigation. Carbonaro—a counselor and the school's junior varsity girls' golf coach— was suspended and "removed from all duties and responsibilities within the district," according to an e-mailed statement from Naperville Community Unit School District 203 in 2011.
Carbonaro was hired as a full-time employee at the district in 2006. At that time, he successfully passed the required background checks conducted on all District 203 employees, district officials have said.
Carbonaro was also a part-time summer camp coach and range officer for the Naperville Park District for 5 years before he was suspended without pay.

Unbelievable !!! Probation for a Child Molester ? DuPage County should be asshamed of itself. You just sent a message to all girls not to come forward if this happens to them because nothing will be done !!! I'm sure his family had connections with someone. Maybe the Judge ?

It's a sad day when the Dupage County courts think probation is a good sentence for sexual assault !!!

Carbonaro's wife is the dumbest of all. She stands by him after he admitted it to the court. Im sure he told her he's admitting it just to keep from getting a prison sentence. Oh wait, DuPage County Court just showed you won't get prison for being a child molester. Great message the court sent to all young girls everywhere !!! I'm sure his family knew someone in the system and that's why he is getting probation. Either way, DuPage County should be ashamed of the message they sent to children. What a joke the court system is !!!

If a 13 year old got pregnant and got an abortion why would they hid it and not tell their patents or need permission. Learn something abortion rules allow as young ad 13 to get an abortion. All abortions are unnecessary!

The courts don't give a plea like that (30 days work release) for someone that is guilty. Taking a plea DOES NOT mean he was guilty. Means he's not stupid enough to risk 7years in jail when he can get a deal that good.

Jail time for a Class 4 felony is usually 1-3 years and the Max. Is 6 years with aggravated circumstances and probation is up to 2 1/2 years.

DOO- I think you are either a troll or mentally ill, but I actually do agree with you on something! A child should never be allowed to give concent for an abortion. When my daughter is in Jr. High she will be able to have an abortion on demand, but if she has a headache at school, the school can't give her tylenol without concent. What?!?! It's crazy.
