Police said a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was stolen after someone broke into the garage of a home in the 2600 block of Champion Road around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The owner saw his Camaro running in front of his home after he was awakened by a noise coming from his garage, according to the Naperville Police Department.

The resident then confronted a person who was inside a second vehicle within his garage, "at which time the subject ran from the garage and entered the Camaro," police said.

The person then sped off in the Camaro and later abandoned the car after crashing near North Aurora and Eola roads in nearby Aurora. Police found items from multiple burglaries inside the car, according to police.

Police believe there are at least three people responsible for the burglary and possibly others.

Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for the thefts.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Naperville Crime Stoppers at 630-420-6006. All callers may remain anonymous.

I know it's not funny to have your Camaro stolen and wrecked, but when I read this I couldn't help but think of the scene in "Transformers" when Sam wakes up to his Camaro driving away.

Perfect time for a homeowner to use a gun to light up the scum running from the garage. Stop him dead in his tracks!! Problem solved!
