Bicyclist Hit by Car Asks Residents for Help

A 50-year-old man from downstate Illinois is asking residents for help identifying a driver who hit him on Christmas Eve and then left the scene.

While most people spent Christmas with their families or friends, Brian Van spent the day at Edward Hospital after being hit while riding his bicycle on Christmas Eve morning.

Now Van, 50, of Murphysboro, is asking Naperville residents to help identify the driver who hit him around 11 a.m. Dec. 24 near the intersection of Washington Street and Gartner Road. He was knocked off the bicycle and left lying in the street while the driver sped away, according to the accident report.

Van suffered a few broken bones, but Naperville police said Tuesday that his injuries were non-life threatening.

"Additionally there are no new leads in this investigation and witnesses interviewed were unable to provide a license plate for the suspect vehicle," said Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell said, in an e-mail statement.

Van and witnesses described the vehicle as a blue compact car, possibly a BMW convertible. The driver was originally reported to be a white male in his 60s, according to the report. He was last seen driving southbound from the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information about the accident or driver is asked to call Naperville police at 630-420-6665.
