A Little Bit of Smoke and Kindness

Saturday's Public Safety Open House and Operation Welcome You Home reached out to Naperville residents in different ways.

Thanks to Naperville's on Saturday, children and familes learned not to play with fireworks and also how firefighters rescue people in danger. Naperville firefighters put on a number of demonstrations, including rope rappelling and putting out a flashover fire. Kids had the chance to don a miniature firefighter jacket and operate a hose as songs such as Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" played over the speakers.

Later that day, Operation Welcome You Home took to the sunny streets of downtown Naperville to show their gratefulness to those who have served our country as an act of kindness sponsored by General Motors. Singing patriotic songs and waving flags, the volunteers handed out Girl Scout cookies to veterans or family members of those in the service. Afterward, they gathered at Chevrolet of Naperville for refreshments and entertainment.
