Edward Foundation donates $700,000 to Edward programs, services
The Edward Foundation, the charitable fundraising arm of Edward
Hospital & Health Services, has donated $700,000 to Edward programs and services, including $600,000 to fund the acquisition of the latest diagnostic technology for Edward’s endoscopy lab and $100,000 for Edward’s screening, wellness and prevention programs.
The Foundation’s $600,000 for endoscopy contributed to the purchase of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) systems for the lab’s procedural rooms.
EUS is used to produce high-quality images of the digestive tract and nearby organs from inside the stomach. The doctor can examine tissue for tumors and, if found, use a fine needle to collect a sample for biopsy, resulting in earlier and more accurate diagnosis of masses or cysts in the gallbladder, pancreas and other internal organs. EBUS is similar technology that’s used in the diagnosis of lung cancer, lung infections, and other diseases in the chest. For more information, visit www.edward.org/endoscopy.
The $100,000 gift from the Foundation supports Edward’s online screening program, one-on-one wellness education, free wellness seminars and free screenings for those who can’t afford them.
Edward’s online HealthAware screenings, available at www.edward.org/healthaware, allow individuals to assess their risk for heart disease, lung and breast cancer, stroke and sleep disorders, and help them proactively manage their health and prevent disease at its earliest stages.
For example, since the HeartAware test became available in 2009, nearly 25,000 people have completed the free, five-minute online assessment with more than 5,800 identified as at-risk for heart disease and accepting the offer for further in-person screening.
The Foundation has raised $29 million since 1990 and helps Edward Hospital provide the highest quality services, technology and facilities in the region. To make a donation to or for more information about the Foundation, call (630) 527-3954 or visit www.edward.org/foundation.
